HLT33115 – Certificate III in Health Services Assistance

Introduction

Develop a career across a range of areas by assisting health care professionals who will be providing care for patients in a hospital with a Certificate III in Health Service Assistance (HLT33115) at the Institute of Health and Nursing Australia.

This qualification covers workers in a range of work roles who provide assistance to health professional staff with the care of clients. Health Services Assistance involves the worker in direct client contact under supervision.

This qualification has been structured with elective groups for specific work functions in assisting in nursing work in acute care. In addition, the qualification supports the multiskilling requirements of smaller and rural/remote work settings.

This qualification is also suited to Australian Apprenticeship pathways.(Domestic and International)

MODE OF DELIVERY

BLENDED

(Blended: online real time theory tutorials with on campus skills training in a simulation environment)

The course is provided through teacher led classroom mode delivery. It will be delivered and assessed over 660 hours which will include theory (20 contact hours per week), self-paced structured learning as per the session plan, simulation training and assessment and 80 hours of work-based training / professional experience placement (PEP).

Besides the above structured learning, students are advised that they will be required to do approximate 10 hours per week of unstructured learning.

The simulation training is for review of the learning activities, practicing communication, work-based skills, management skills and to undertake other assessments e.g.: group presentation/individual presentation.

Students are required to attend 20 contact hours per week physically at the campus and professional experience placements.

20 contact hours will be delivered through synchronised online learning which includes on- campus simulation based training and Professional experience placement.

Besides the above structured learning, students are advised that they will be required to do approximate 10 hours per week of unstructured learning.

  • 16 years of age and above at the time of commencement of the course
  • Successful completion of an Australian Year 10 qualification or equivalent possess basic computer skills
  • Applicants will have to demonstrate their competence in literacy and numeracy levels in an Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) at Exit Level 3 and participate in a pre-training review (PTR) when enrolling into the course
  • Mature age students (22+) will also be considered without the minimum education requirements. Each case will be reviewed individually to ascertain the capacity of the student to meet course requirements

Additional Requirement for professional experience placement (PEP)

  • A satisfactory National Police Clearance / Australian Federal Police Clearance Certificate (AFP) / NCC
  • Applicable immunisation certification such as COVID-19 Certificate

IHNA highly recommends students to complete the immunisation process before the PEP start date as some facilities will not provide placement to students without Immunisation.

Our approach is to collect evidence on whether the student can perform to the standards of the workplace. This is based on the relevant unit of competency, and you’ll find these tools being used:

  • Knowledge Based Assessments (KBA)
  • Simulation Based Assessments (SBA)
  • Professional Experience Placement (PEP)
