Four simple steps can make a difference
Choose the right moment and simply ask, “Are you OK?”
“How are you going?”
Give them your full attention and allow them time to talk.
Take your time. Be present and listen without judgement.
Support them in taking a positive next step or in seeking additional support when needed.
“How would you like me to support you?”
Follow up later and let them know you are still there.
Make time to catch up again and ask how they’re going.
You do not have to work through everything on your own.
The IHNA Student Counsellor is available to provide students with confidential support and a safe space to talk.
Whether you are dealing with study pressure, placements, personal challenges or simply need someone to listen, support is available.
