Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), also known as Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) or Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), is a process that acknowledges and gives credit to individuals for the skills, knowledge, and competencies they have acquired through informal learning experiences, work experience, and non-formal education.

The purpose of RPL is to assess and recognize the learning outcomes achieved by individuals outside of formal education settings. It allows individuals to demonstrate their competence and obtain formal recognition, such as qualifications, certifications, or credits, for the knowledge and skills they have gained through practical experience, self-study, volunteering, or other non-traditional learning pathways.

The RPL process typically involves assessing an individual's prior learning against the established learning outcomes or competency standards of a specific qualification, course, or program. This assessment can be carried out through various methods, including interviews, examinations, portfolio assessments, workplace observations, and demonstrations.

It's important to note that the specific procedures and policies regarding RPL may vary across educational institutions, professional organizations, and countries. However, the overarching goal remains consistent, which is to provide individuals with fair recognition and credit for their prior learning experiences.

  • The educator will inform a particular date for RPL interview on campus. The student must report at the campus with the originals of the documents submitted during the enrolment procedures and the RPL interview will be conducted.
  • The next procedures are the completion of assessments and gap training, which will be conducted after the RPL interview session, and all these processes will be briefed by the educator. The student will be informed if they must do any placements for the course completion.
  • The students should report to the campus on their allocated date and time. They can finish the entire RPL session in 2-4 sessions.

  • Saving time and resources: RPL enables individuals to bypass redundant learning by providing them with the opportunity to demonstrate their existing knowledge and skills, potentially shortening the time required to obtain a qualification.
  • Access to further education and career advancement: Recognizing prior learning can open doors to higher education programs, advanced training, or career advancement opportunities that may have specific prerequisites or entry requirements.
  • Validation of informal learning: Many individuals acquire valuable knowledge and skills through real-life experiences or non-traditional learning pathways. RPL allows them to have their learning validated and formally recognized, increasing their confidence and credibility.
  • Cost savings: By recognizing prior learning, individuals may be exempted from repeating courses or modules, reducing the overall cost of education or training.
  • Flexibility and inclusivity: RPL promotes inclusivity by acknowledging diverse learning experiences and accommodating individuals who may have not followed traditional educational pathways. It recognizes the value of experiential learning and supports lifelong learning initiatives.

When you study online, the only way to communicate is via messages or phone calls, POORVI PATEL stands above the rest.
There has been a lot of doubts and confusion regarding the course, but she has always guided me in the right direction whether its late at night or early morning Poorvi was always there to reply to my messages and I am sure other students must have felt the same way. She enjoys her work and takes pride in resolving queries. Thank you for all your efforts and dedication. I am beyond grateful for your guidance and support.
