The CHC33015 – Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability, Home and Community) reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualized plan to provide person-centered support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centered support. This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to work primarily in residential facilities and disability support centers under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organization guidelines and service plans.

Enrolling in this qualification and availing the relevant state funding, may affect student’s future training options and the eligibility for further government subsidised training.
Students eligible and opting for government funding must attend 20 hours of classroom sessions per week. Students failing to attend the classroom sessions will not be able to avail the funding and will be required to pay the full course fees.

The course is provided through teacher led classroom mode delivery. It will be delivered over 756 hours including theory (20 contact hours per week), self-paced structured e-learning, simulation training and its assessments (56 hours) and 120 hours of work-based training/ professional experience placement (PEP).
Besides the above structured learning, students are advised that they will be required to do unstructured learning as assigned.
The simulation training is for review of the learning activities, practicing communication, work-based skills, management skills and to undertake other assessments e.g.: group presentation/individual presentation.
Face to face delivery mode is available in a full-time and part-time delivery.
Full Time : 2 days/ week classes with simulation training and Professional experience placement.
Part Time : 1 day/ week classes with simulation training and Professional experience placement.

There are no pre-requisites or any other training package entry requirements for this course.
IHNA has in place admission criteria for courses in its scope as required by its ‘Application and Enrolment Procedure for VET Courses’ to ensure that candidates meet industry requirements.
For International students undertaking this course in conjunction with their primary course a separate Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is also required
It is also essential for the student to possess basic computer skills.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged to apply.
Professional Experience Placements (PEP) is a compulsory component of this course and 100% attendance is mandatory. Students must complete all theory and simulation components satisfactorily prior to attending placements.
The Professional Experience Placements will be 5 days a week. Students may be allocated a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) shifts. Morning shifts usually start at 7 am and evening shifts can finish at 10.30pm. Each shift is 8.5 hours long (including 30 mins meal break).
PEPs are undertaken in partnership with a wide range of placement providers. These providers are located throughout metropolitan, regional and rural areas, and in some cases interstate. Students must consider that they may be required to travel or relocate for the duration of the placement to the facility location. Students must attend as per schedule; no special arrangements or changes will be made on the allocated placements. PEPs may be cancelled without prior notice by the facility.
Additional Requirement for professional experience placement.
While IHNA will work with you to make “reasonable adjustments” in the campus lab and classroom, there are work place practice conditions that occur in the workplace environment that are beyond IHNA’s control.
The physical requirements below are necessary to function in the healthcare facility and/or community setting. Students must be able to perform and complete course objectives and requirements with or without reasonable adjustments. Our courses cater to a range of candidates. The candidates are required to be physically fit to manage tasks.

Assessment strategies are implemented for collecting evidence and making judgements about whether competency has been achieved by the learner.

Candidates may progress to higher level qualifications within and/or across the community sector like :
RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) assesses your competency(s) that may have been acquired through formal, non-formal and informal learning or direct work experience to determine if you meet the required skills and knowledge specified in a training package or VET accredited courses.
Credit transfer applies where students have completed units of study at another TAFE College or Registered Training Organisation, including IHNA, that meet the requirements of another qualification or the applicable training package. Credit will be granted in accordance with the Certification, Issuing and Recognition of Qualifications and Statements of Attainment. There is no fee to assess a Credit Transfer.
If you are eligible for RPL or CT you may be able to complete the course in a shorter duration with reduction in your total course fees*.

*Competency-based training is the concept that individuals learn at different rates as well as through different modes and different environments and that the skills and knowledge that a student has acquired previously are able to be formally recognised. Eg: Students who are eligible for RPL may be able to finish the course in 3 months with an Assessment Only delivery mode.
